FSC Outdoor Benches - About the FSC

Deforestation and forest degradation account for approximately 15 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. And an area the size of half of the United Kingdom is felled each year. Sixty million indigenous people and numerous plant and animal species rely upon the forests, and illegal logging severely harms these habitats. Products made from wood sourced illegally often appear in the U.K. and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) runs various schemes to combat this trade.

The FSC is an international charity, and is supported by WWF, Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust. It was founded in 1993 and aims reduce deforestation by implementing a trustworthy wood-labelling scheme. It runs a global forest certification system so customers can ensure their products are made from sustainable forests. The FSC logo guarantees the wood used for your product will be replaced by planting new trees and allowing the region to regenerate, and certain areas are completely protected from logging.

The charity creates a partnership between local people and the forest owner. It encourages the owner to employ the indigenous population, provide training and health and safety and support their community. The FSC logo, which you will find on many of our products, allows you to buy furniture with peace of mind, as the product is made from sustainable wood by a reliable and conscientious company.
